Brad’s Armageddon

Armageddon

Another year another Armageddon, my all time favourite event of the year without a doubt. These events always begin with me helping set up the venue for the show on the Friday. Then the Friday night is the cocktail party which is when the real fun starts for the weekend. This was the first year that the cocktail party was held at Bobby McGees and I absolutely adore this venue. it has got a great vibe about it, all the retro antiques and lighting, a great venue that’s a little different.

Invisible Brad

This event was the first Australian event attended by our special convention friend, Invisible Brad. Brad was a character that a bunch of friends and I created, who would attend conventions. Whenever there was an empty seat or we were minding one, we would say that Brad was sitting there. He’s first convention had been in Canada, earlier in the year and we wanted to see how far he could go. He even had his own Facebook and Twitter using the name Insta Brad.

The plan for this event was to see how many people Brad could met and get photos with, hopefully including guests. At the cocktail party Brad had the opportunity to meet several of guests at the event. He chatted with Christopher Heyerdahl, Finn Jones, and Miltos Yerolemou. Got his photo taken with them, as well as several friends. This was so much fun to do and I love how involved people got with Brad. The fandom world is filled with so many people with great imaginations, it was perfect.

(unfortunately the quality of photos were not great so I’ve only shared the few that were decent)

Volunteering

As always with Armageddon events I volunteered, and was working in the Media Guest Area. This year we were a guest minder short so on the Saturday so I spent the day with Nathaniel Buzolic. Sitting with only one guest was a little different to my usual role as gopher. Although this meant sitting between Nathaniel and Christopher Heyerdahl for the day so not a lot to complain about there.

Chris is amazing and I adore him. I remember at one point in the day a good friend came up to talk to me. We were just hugging and high fiving over the tables, because that’s just how we roll. There really was a great line-up of guests for this event and they were all really good. I’m glad I got the chance to talk to some of them throughout the weekend.

Where I was sitting with Nathanial on his other side was Aldis Hodge who was amazing, such a gentleman. He had also brought his mother along to the event with him, it was a birthday present to her. She was lovely and I got to chat with her quite a bit. I had a great conversation with her, she commented that she was really enjoying the atmosphere of the event. She liked that the staff and volunteers were very social and friendly with the attendees. Explained that events in the states don’t have that type of atmosphere. She thought it was great and made for a much better experience.

It made me feel incredibly proud to be a part of such an amazing event. Especially as someone who has been working Armageddon events since they first started in Australia. I have always loved the atmosphere of our events and it’s great to see that guests do as well.

Day Two

Day Two of Armageddon and I was back to being a gopher, I didn’t mind sitting with a guest for a change. I just prefer to be the one running around and keeping busy, getting guests things and moving between them. I’m generally not very good at sitting still for long periods so the running around works for me best. I also get variety of talking to different guests, it’s what I love the most about being a volunteer.

I did get a few guest photos this weekend, I brought photos with Sebastian Roché and Jim Beaver. Both of whom had been in episodes of Criminal Minds. I do find it funny that in my photo with Jim I accidently pointed my gun at his crotch area, sorry Jim. I also had a group photo with Chris Judge and Chris Heyerdahl, along with fellow SG-7 costume group members. Although not all of us were in our Stargate costumes for the photo. I also got another photo taken with Chris Heyerdahl and my friend Vyvyanne, and we did the Charlie’s Angels pose.

Guests

Also got to add two additional autographs to my collection at this event. Added autographs from Mark Pellegrino and one from Charles Martinet who is the voice of Mario. I got the chance to talk to many different guests at this event. I don’t recall all conversations but I know I definitely spoke with: Karl Urban, George Lazenby, Aron Eisenberg, Martin Klebba, Bruce Boxleitner, and Cindy Morgan. it really was a great guest line-up for the event and I love that I have the opportunity to speak to these amazing people.

Armageddon Family

I am so very proud of our Armageddon family this weekend. We received some amazing feedback over the weekend and it just makes you proud. A few friends and other attendees commented on how smoothly it was run. How the guests were great and that all the staff were helpful and friendly. It is such an honour to be a part of this amazing team and to get such great feedback. Having been working Armageddon since the beginning (in Australia) it’s great to hear that people have enjoyed themselves. And that they had such a great time, like Aldis’ Mum said, the atmosphere at our events is amazing.

Chris Video

Since Armageddon first started in Melbourne, it has always been organised for the weekend before the Auckland event. This means that the guests get more of a holiday out of it, and they get to spent time in both Australia and New Zealand.

The following weekend after this event, a friend in New Zealand who went to the cocktail party sent me this video and I love it.
