Meeting Ming-Na

Whirl-wind Trip to meet Ming-Na Wen

What a crazy experience, this was my whirl-wind trip to meet the incredible Ming-Na Wen. Having recently become a huge fan of Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D I could not pass up the opportunity. When I saw that Ming-Na Wen was coming to Australia, I knew I had to make it work to get there and meet her. Ming-Na was coming to attend a Supanova event in Sydney.

Unfortunately, I had to work the Sunday morning from midnight to 7am. I had someone come and take over from me a little bit early, then I raced to the airport. I got on a plane and flew up to Sydney, I hired a car and drove to the venue. I got to the showgrounds and then the fun times started. Thankfully, I had a friend who was able to pre-buy my tokens for me, so I didn’t have to spend time queuing. The up sides of having such an amazing con family and community.

Photos with Ming-Na

I was giddy with excitement as I queued for my photo with Ming-Na, I was trying to rack my brain for a great photo idea. My plan was to get a nice photo with her, followed by a silly one so I needed an idea. Boy am I glad that I went with the silly photo idea. It turned out incredible and is one of my top favourites, as was Ming-Na’s reaction to it. Ming-Na was such a lovely person to meet, we took a nice first photo. Then I asked her if she would pretend to punch me in the face for the second photo, she obliged. I had the best laugh when I saw the printed photo, it was perfect.

Ming-Na’s Panel

After the photo, I then went and sat down for Ming-Na’s panel. This was such a great panel, except for the fact my camera stopped working half way through. I guess in some ways that was a blessing, as it gave me the opportunity to sit there and just listen. I don’t often get to just sit and enjoy panels, so it was really good.

Ming-Na’s Autograph

Afterwards, I went to queue for my autographs from her. Firstly I got my Stargate shirt autographed, it’s always the first thing I get signed and has been since 2005. Next up I placed the funny photo we took down in front of her, she took one look at it and started laughing. She then looks up and me and commented that she hadn’t realised that I’d been making a face. This moment I will remember forever, her reaction and especially the laugh, was the best response I could have ever got.

Heading Home

Having gotten the photos, sat through the panel and then got my autographs it was time to rush off back home. I had to rush to rush off to the airport and then fly home. Once home I instagrammed the two photos I had taken with Ming-Na. I commented that we did unintentional before and after photos. To my surprise Ming-Na actually retweeted my tweet. Another reason that Ming-Na was awesome. Sometimes it’s the little things that mean the most.
