Second Stargate Event
My second Stargate event and once again we decided to go VIP. This time we even decided to stay at the hotel to be closer to the event. Different from the year before this event, the convention during the day and then followed by dinner with the guests. This event was called The Other Side of the Gate and was organised and run by First Contact Conventions. The guests in attendance this year were Rachel Luttrell, Tony Amendola and David Nykl. My friends and I decided to wear our homemade “Evil Vegemite Girls” shirts.
Vegemite Girls
We spent the day getting our photographs, autographs and listening to their panels. We continued our tradition and struck by handing the guests Vegemite to try on stage, see Puddle Jumper. When we gave David Nykl a tube of Vegemite, he grabbed it, opened it and squirted it in his mouth. He then commented "I'll brush my teeth with it every morning".
Didn't get the chance to give Tony his Vegemite on stage. I ended up throwing it across to him as he walked past following his panel time. Therefore we did not get to see reaction to tasting the Vegemite. When it was Rachel's turn on stage the event organiser Scotty had us all come on stage. We got up and gave Rachel her tube of Vegemite. She tried the tiniest bit on her finger and commented "It's not too bad".
Rachel's sister Erica had come along to the event with her. During Rachel's panel, Erica joined her on stage and they sang for us. The main song I remember is 'Country Road'. It was beautifully sung and they were both amazing. It was an honour to be a part of this moment.
Stargate Dinner
Following the event, we then had dinner with the guests which was a lot of fun. We had some great conversations with them and they were all very lovely. One of the other attendees at the dinner asked for a photo with The Vegemite Girls. We all got up and posed for a photo with them, this then led to everyone starting to take photos. We were lucky to be able to get photos with the guests at dinner. too.
